**We will NEVER deny requests and will always accept new suggestions whether we have a negative opinion towards a certain group or not. Our job is to remain as professional as possible and revive what's left of the Minnesota music scene. The ONLY requirement we have is that the band be from Minnesota.**

  1. PS Amy will still be doing the blog, if she chooses. Just to clear that up. :)

  2. Due to a recent change in career direction, I have decided to leave the blog. It was fun while it lasted and I enjoyed working with all of the bands that I wrote about. I will never stop my contribution to the Minnesota music scene. Keep on chasing your dreams. Peace and Love, Corissa <3

  3. Interview With Nick Wellner From High Hopes

What was the writing process for “Remote” like?

The writing process for Remote was typical: riffs brought to band practice, then ironed out into full songs. We wrote the songs for the album over a period of a year or so prior. We recorded Remote in 48 hours.

Where did the lyrical inspiration for the songs come from?

Lyrically, the inspiration for the songs came from a discontent with society, and a yearning to distance oneself from it in favor of a simpler life, closer to the natural world and our primal roots.

What did “Remote” mean to High Hopes as a whole?

Without trying to speak for the band, I think Remote was the next step for us as a band after Consumer, and a solid effort on all our parts, having written, performed, recorded & mixed (dan), and designed (nick) the release. I think we also found our stride in a more aggressive sound.

Any upcoming news we should be looking out for?

In 2011 we’re continuing to write, and play more shows in the midwest (more van parties).

  5. “REMOTE” - High Hopes (Album Review)

To say that a band’s album has left me breathless is quite a feat. I’ve been contemplating how to write this review for a while, and no words that I can say can give “Remote” any justice. It has been out since Fall 2010 and it never seems to get old. This five-song collection is extraordinary from beginning to end. The lyrics are impeccable, to put it simply, and the recording of the entire album is clean and crisp. High Hopes focuses on writing about important issues and producing emotionally driven material that will surely leave an impression.
The beginning song, “Sleep Never Comes,” is a terrific intro to the albums overall strength. Although I wasn’t overly impressed by the lyrics, the flow of vocalist, Nick Wellner’s, voice collaborated with the talents of the remainder of the band makes the song as a whole stand out. It provides a small glimpse of what is to come in the following songs and sets a tone for the album that is sure to get any hardcore/punk fan pumped up. “Ravenous” is the next song on the album. It is powerful, thought provoking, and energetic, much like the remainder of the album.
“Soggy Teeth,” “Burning Beast” and the final song, “Promise of Youth,” were the songs that really left a lasting impression on me. The lyrics were equally as strong as the instrumental pieces, which is something that separates a good album from a great album. Most bands use the middle of albums to drown it down with a mixture of outstanding songs and fillers, which generally makes for an averagely rated album. High Hopes succeeds in keeping an upbeat flow within all of their songs and don’t make room for fillers that will end up being forgettable.
I am eagerly awaiting their next album as I believe that it will be as strong, if not stronger, than “Remote.” High Hopes is a band that will leave you speechless, make you think, and inspire you. They are on a path that will only bring them good fortune in the music scene and the anticipation for new material has left many listeners of their latest release impatient. “Remote” is incredibly impressive and to simply recommend it would be an understatement.
